9. Does good-looking color represent good dog food?

it is generally considered that good dog food should have darker color, while light color belongs to the inferior dog food.

Color in the dog food reflects the certain raw material used in the dog food. Since meat is the staple in most of dog food, the color of dog food should be in brown or darker brown after the meat processing.
However, this is not always the case. Take for example of chicken, the good chicken pet food should have lighter color because it used pure chicken breast, instead of chicken bones, chicken offal and other by-products.

Human likes the fragrant smell, while dogs prefer the meat and fishy smell. In order to cater to the preference of human being, some dog food manufacturers added synthetic flavors to have the creamy or milky flavor in dog food. However, this is not appealing to the dog at all.
A good dog food should have normal meat or slight fishy smell, rather than intensive fragrant smell.

Many dog owners like to choose the dog dry food with uniform shape or size. Any dog food with irregular shape or size is considered bad dog food.
